A gold watch was present on Saturday night to Mr Albert Wilde, of Swinton, in recognition of his 25 year’s service in connection with the local branch of the Village Pride Lodge, Sheffield Equalised Druids.
Owing to his appointment as the gas engineer to the Nottingham Corporation, Miss Wilkinson, adviser to the Swinton and Mexborough Gas Board has asked to be relieved of his engagement with the local Gas Board.
The Conisborough Cricket Club Ball will be known in future as the Conisborough ball. Great effort is to be made this year to revive the popularity of this event, which will take place in the Drill Hall, New Conisbrough on February 1st.
We observed some time ago that a commencement was made to pull down the convenience in Park Road, Mexborough. A Park Road resident now writes to enquire when the work will be completely demolished, as nothing has been done in the matter for some weeks.
At the tramways dinner, last Thursday, Inspector Long was presented with a converted Martini – Henry rifle, sling and case in recognition of the services he rendered to the construction of the tramways Club Rifle Range. The rifle was subscribed for by members of the club.
The Mexborough Secondary School Old Students Association are holding the annual hockey and football matches, “Past the Present,” tomorrow (Saturday). A reunion and social evening will also be held on Thursday next.
The committee of the Mexborough Town Football Club are contemplated the desirability of joining hands with Swinton in the establishment of a joint club and ground without quotas on the boundary of the two townships.
It is an old idea, and some time ago there was talk of promoting a syndicate to carry out this purpose. Probably the football enthusiasts of the two townships will shortly meet to discuss the project.
At the Mexborough Hospital, on Thursday, Mrs Barron, wife of Mr W Barron of Westcliff on Sea, and daughter of Councillor John and Mrs Clayton, of Ingle nook, Mexborough was operated upon for appendicitis by Doctor Sinclair White of Sheffield and Doctor Harvey of Swinton.
We are pleased to learn that the operations so far as can be ascertained, was quite successful, and there is a good prospects of the patient recovering a former health and strength. That this will be the case is a sincere wish expressed by large circle of acquaintances and friends.
