The Salute the Soldier campaign, now in its last week, has so far realised £506,187,519.  The figure is equal to £14/17/3 per head.

On Saturday July 29th all British boys and girls born between June 25th 1928 and July 29th 1928, both dates inclusive, are required to register particulars about themselves at either a local office of the Ministry of Labour and National Service, or a juvenile employment bureau, or a special registration station of a local authority which is undertaking the registration.

The price of coal is to be advanced by 4s a ton on August 1st.

The garden party held at Swinton House and The Beeches, Swinton for the Manvers Main Fighting Forces Fund on Saturday realised £220.

Presentations were made at Mexborough Secondary School on Friday to Mr. E. H Alderson, who has retired after 37 years on the school staff, for the last three years as Senior Master.

A huge crater blown by a charge of 2,400 lbs. of gelignite at the opencast coal working site at Rainborough, West Melton, was inspected on Saturday by five Yorkshire M.P.’s and by Earl Fitzwilliam, and Lord Barnby.
