A patient of the Montagu Hospital, Mexborough, who signs himself “A Man from Rawmarsh,” has sent to the Hospital £35 chiefly in five-pound notes as a token of gratitude for the recovery of his eyesight.
A collection is to be made in Mexborough to-day (Friday) and on Saturday for the Soldiers’ Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association. A generous response is hoped for as there may be heavy calls on the Association’s funds as a result of the great military operations now pending.
During April there were fifty prosecutions by the R.S.P.C.A. against people for cruelty to animals to which Yorkshire contributed five. This is one less than the previous month and considerably less than April 1943 when there were sixty-two cases. There is a sharp rise in the number of offences against horses – eighteen in all, while against dogs, cattle, sheep and rabbits there were nine, six, three and two cases, one each being recorded against a goat, cat, fowl and linnet. Four persons were also disqualified from keeping a dog for periods ranging from life to the end of the present year.
