A freak chicken hatched at Thurnscoe on Sunday had four legs, two in the usual place and two protruding from the chest. It lived for 86 hours.

The death has occurred at Scarborough of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Milner, widow of Mr. J. C. Milner, formerly headmaster of Park Street Council School, and John Street Council Sehoots, Wombwell.

The 1842 home-grown crop of tomatoes is to be distributed through allocation committees and a notice appears elsewhere in these columns to all retailers holding licences to make application immediately for their allocation to the Doncaster Area Control, 8, Nether Hall Road, Doncaster.

It is also hoped that Eddie Paynter, of Lancashire, Maurice Leyland and the Derbyshire Popes and Copson will be available.

Several hundred women of exceptional intelligence an d proved organising ability are wanted at once to train as A.T.S. cooks.

The West Riding Miners’ Permanent Relief Fund annual report states that it is estimated that 1,100 members have joined H.M. Forces.

Lady Roberts, wife of Sir Samuel Roberts, Bart., chairman of the Wombwell Main Colliery Co., Ltd., is to open a pit-head canteen at the colliery on Saturday week, May 30th.

The collections taken at the Wath Hospital Sunday demonstration for the Montagu Hospital were a record and exceeded £60. The committee hope to give £200 this year to the Hospital.

On many of the gates removed in the metal salvage collection the number of the house. The Post Office asks that another number should be placed on the door or anywhere where it is visible to the postman.

A Manvers and District Women’s Junior Air Corps is being established with headquarters at the Manvers Brickworks Office. Membership is open for girls between the ages of 15 ½  and 18 years and recruits are enrolled on Tuesday evenings at 6.45. There are many useful functions which such corps can fulfil.
