An important sale of valuable Wath property will take place next Thursday.

For the first three nights of the Amateur Opera at Mexborough, the takings were £74. As the latter half of the week is more profitable in the proportion of 3 to 2, well over £180 should be cleared.

Three candidates for the position of Lady health visitor for Mexborough will appear before the Sanitary Committee on the Council.

One of these is a lady extremely well-known in the Mexborough district.

We understand there will be shortly be a change in tenancy of the old hostelry, the Commercial Hotel, Mexborough.

Many friends of Mr James Peters who has been associated with the hotel for a long period are hoping that his son, Mr C Peters, will be appointed to succeed Mr W Soar as landlord, and a petition to this end has been extensively signed.

Mr Douglas Chambers, the manager of the Denaby Main Colliery, is to be married next Tuesday.

The annual ball of the Mexborough Cricket and Athletic Club will be held on Thursday, January 11, 1912.

A project is on foot for the laying out of a large budding estate within the area of the Thurnscoe Urban Council.

The annual dinner of the Mexborough Trades Association will be held next Thursday evening at the Montagu Arms Hotel.

It has been decided to hold the usual treat to old folks at Mexborough, and a meeting of the committee was held on Tuesday evening.

Conisbrough people are considerably annoyed because the authorities persist in turning off the water supply without giving due notice.

The only match of the MCC cricket team in Australia opens today (Friday) at Adelaide, their opponents being South Australia.

Wath Council and refused the application of the Mexborough and Swinton Tramway Company to introduce the trackless trams in the Wath district.

Anniversary services in connection with the Mexborough Brotherhood and Sisterhood are to be held on Sunday and Monday next in the Wesleyan Church.

Four accidents have occurred this week at the Wath Main Colliery. In one instance a Duffield mineral inspector had a miraculous escape from death.

Mr T.W.Beckett, organist of Greensboro Church, as promised to give an organ recital at Swinton Parish Church on Sunday afternoon December 10th.

One of the largest funerals we have seen of late was that of Mr John Stacey, a prominent Manvers Main miners official, who died very suddenly on Saturday. He was at work as usual on the Friday.

The defendant in the Mexborough manslaughter case indignantly denied that he was a fighting man, and proceeded, under cross-examination, to enumerate the many fights he had fought and lost.

In aid of the funds of the Mexborough Cricket and Athletic Club, a number of ladies and gentlemen all working assiduously in arranging a cafe chantant and dance, to be held at West Street Hall, on Thursday, November 23.

For the benefit of the Swinton Hospital and convalescent home for a grand concert will be held in the Empire Palace, Mexborough, on Sunday, November 26. A capital array of artistes have been secured for this event.

The meeting to protest against the proposed disestablishment of the Welsh Church will be held on Friday, December 8 at Denaby, when the speakers will be Sir A Griffith Boseawer M.M. and the Archdeacon of Halifax,  Rev. W Foxley Norris.

Mrs Taylor (knee Miss Pattie Washington) of Wombwell, who is appearing with conspicuous success this week at Mexborough Theatre in the “Yeomen of the Guard,” sails for Canada on November 17 to join her husband, who is an official of the Canadian Pacific Railway at Medic Medicine Hat Alberta.

The will of the late Mr Abraham Lee, of Alina St, Mexborough, who died on 24 December 1910, has been proved by his executives – Doctor Lee of Mexborough; the Reverend Richard Lee Bligh, and the Reverend John William Lee, on Dunston on Tyne – at £1,371 12s 1d gross personally, and £8,412 2s 3d gross real estate. The deceased was 65 years of age.
