Mr. W. J. Harrison, stationmaster at Ashton Park Parade, has been appointed stationmaster at Wath.
St. John Ambulance Classes, which have started at Wath this week, have been held continuously since 1883.
Swinton Athletic Club are to hold a dinner next Thursday to celebrate their winning of the Yorkshire Cricket Council Championship for the first time in the history of the club.
Flight-Sergt. Brian Jagger, the twenty-year-old son of Mr. David Jagger, the famous portrait painter, who is a native of Kilnhurst, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal.
Commencing on the first day in November the visits of out-patients to the Montagu Hospital will be made by appointment. Full details of this scheme, devised to avoid the loss of waiting time, will be published shortly.
The Montagu Hospital Ladies’ Committee Silver Tree effort, which last year raised £436 is to be held on Thursday, December 9th, when the host and hostess will be Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Charlton, Brampton House, West Melton.
The Annual Area Conference of the National Savings Committee for the West Riding of Yorkshire is to be held at the Civic Hall, Leeds, on Tuesday next, and the conference will be addressed by Lord Kindersley, G.B.E., President of the National Savings Committee.
The full Executive of the Mineworkers’ Federation met in London yesterday to discuss last week’s proposals for increasing coal output made by Lord Hindley, Controller General, and Mr, John Armstrong, Labour Director on be the Ministry of Fuel. The Government proposals fall into three sections; work on Saturday afternoons, work on one Sunday in four, and the clearing of the coal face after each shift.
In aid of the funds of the Montagu Hospital a performance of the Messiah will be given at the Grand Theatre, Wath, on Sunday evening.
Swinton Urban Council have fixed a rate of 10s. 8d. in the pound for the half-year ending March 31st, 1944, the same as for the last six months. et After having been on desperately short rations for a long time all parts of the township of Swinton are now getting a continuous supply of water.
A public meeting is to be held in the Council Chamber at Bolton-on- Dearne on Wednesday next to consider a proposal to erect a Memorial Hall in the township.

The Prime Minister, Mr. Winston Churchill, is to have the Freedom of the City of Sheffield conferred upon him. The invitation was sent to him shortly before he went to Canada for his talks with President Roosevelt in Quebec.
Major Lloyd George, Minister of Fuel and Power, commenced a tour of the Yorkshire coalfield yesterday (Thursday) which will conclude on Saturday. He will address the Council of the Y.M.A. at Barnsley on Saturday morning.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Butler, of 23, Alderson Drive, Doncaster, celebrate their diamond wedding on Saturday. Before his retirement about 20 years ago Mr. Butler lived Mexborough and was storekeeper at the plant of the London and North Eastern Railway.
