The Rev. A. C. E. Bennett, Vicar of St. Hilda’s, Thurnscoe, has been nominated to the living of Thorpe Hesley, rendered vacant by the recent death of the Rev. S. E. Tuffs.
“I want Mexborough parents to continue having their children immunised and thereby save an undertaker’s account.” Coun. J. H. White at Mexborough Urban Council meeting on Wednesday. Coun. White is himself an undertaker.
The Red Cross Agriculture Fund’s mobile display unit consisting of three vans demonstrating the various functions of the Red Cross and St. John organisation, will visit Denaby Main on November 5th from 1 to 2.30 and Conisbrough the same day from 3 to 4.30 p.m.
The air mail letter service at 1/3 per half-ounce to H.M. Forces serving with the Middle East Force (M.E.F.) has been suspended. The ordinary airgraph service at 3d each and the air letter service at 6d. each are still available. The reason for the suspension of the air mail letter service to the M.E.F, is that this service no longer offers any advantage over other mail services to personnel serving with the Middle East Forces. The 1/3 air mail letter service to H.M. Forces serving in India and Ceylon is liable, at present, to considerable delay. The public are strongly advised not to send correspondence for India and Ceylon by air mail letter service until further notice.
Members of Mexborough Urban Council on Wednesday said farewell to Mr. F. E. Hall, Clerk to the Council, who has retired after 21 years’ service. The chairman (Coun. J. Kelly, J.P.) presented a reading lamp and a pipe to Mr, Hall on behalf of the Council officials,
Mine workers have contributed £200,000 to the Red Cross Penny a Week Fund, Yorkshire miners lead with £60,000. Totals from other mining areas are: Durham £54,000, Lancashire and_ Cheshire £43,000, South Wales £31,000, Nottinghamshire £5,000, South Derbyshire £3,700, Northumberland £2,100.
