Men with H.M. Forces

Gunner Stanley Fox, elder son of Mr and Mrs. T. Fox, of Moor Road, Wath, who is serving with a heavy A.A. battery, with other local lads, has sent home a snap of himself and some of his colleagues, which will be of great interest to many in the Wath district. This was taken less than two months ago in India.

The battery have had months of interesting and instructive travel. On their Journey out they were well received at several ports. For some time they did not receive any news from home, but when mails did come through there was no shortage of literature.

Gunner Fox received one mail, which included nine issues of the “South Yorkshire Times.” Now that they are getting home news they are much more contented and all are in excellent health. They are being well looked after and are treated well by the civil population, receiving invitation’ to dinner, free picture shows etc.

Perhaps through force of circumstances these lads are keen naturalists—mosquitoes, bull frogs, hyenas, etc. provide strange music, and Stanley and a pal have had the better of an argument with atwelve-foot snake.

The boys on the picture all come from Wath, West Melton or Mexborough. They are: standing (left to right), Gunner B. Lidster, Gunner D. Quinlan, L/Bombardier S. Smith, L/Bombardier E. Healy, Gunner F. Mason: middle row, L/ Bombardier C. Vickers, Gunner T. Foster, Gunner J. Armitage; front row, Gunner R. Royston and Gunner S. Fox.
