New Councillors

Three Labour candidates new to council work secured unopposed returns in the Urban Council election on Saturday.

They are Mr George Albert Kitchen and Mr Arthur Dearden (both Central Ward) and Mr Thomas Hallsworth (East Ward).

Mr Kitchen (top)

Mr Kitchen of Fitzwilliam Avenue is a guard on the L.N.E.R.at Wath and has taken great interest in the Labour Party for the past three years.

Mr Hallsworth (middle)

Mr Hallsworth is a presser at Waterstone  Glassworks.

Mr Hallsworth has been in the trade since he was 14. A native of Barnsley he lives at five, Sandymount Rd, Wath. He is a member of the W.E.A. and of the Transport and General Workers Union. He served in the NFS for four years during the war. Last year he gained a Union Scholarship to bang the college for a course which included economics.

Mr Dearden (bottom)

Mr Dearden is a ripper employed at Barnburgh Main Colliery, and has served for the past three years on the Barnburgh NUM branch committee.

A native of Wath he has resided at West Melton for 14 years.

He is keenly interested in sport, was a former member of the old Wath Cycling Club and is a staunch advocate of nationalisation.
