New Councillors – Mr Allen Wild

Mr Allen Wild, the White Ribbon candidate, who defeated the retiring Labour member, Mr John Thomas Shaw, in the East Ward, was born at Poynton, Cheshire in 1987.

He was Educated at Lord Durnin school, and came to Wath at the age of 14. He commenced work at Manvers Main colliery in 1911, and is still in their employ. He has passed through all stages of mine work and is now under manager of the Melton Field seam.

Mr Wilde attended Rotherham Technical School for three years, and Sheffield University for five years. He is a member of the Institute of mining engineers.

He is a keen sportsman and has played cricket with Wath Athletic club for three years in the South Yorkshire league.

He served with the Royal Engineers services for two years during the great War.
