New Councillors – Mr C Smith
A Wath resident for 30 years, Mr Christopher Smith, of 12, co-operative Street, West Melton, is a postman employed at Wath post office, and has been a civil servant for 40 years.
He is a native of Goole, and came to Wath from there some 30 years ago, when he joined the prewar Wath debating society.
At the outbreak of war, Mr Smith enlisted, and served for three years and then 16th infantry Brigade, and he was with the army of occupation in Germany for about 18 months.
He is a keen collector of antiques, and has an interesting collection of old coins, pottery, and books.
This is the first time he has contested an election
