New Curate for Wath Parish Church

January 1927

Mexborough and Swinton Times January 7, 1927

Next Sunday evening in the Wath Parish Church, the Rev Harold Cecil Eves is to be licenced as curate in the parish by the Bishop of Sheffield.

Mr Eves was ordained six years ago at Durham, having graduated M.A. at Durham University. He was for two years curate in charge at Thornaby on Tees, where he formed a men’s club with a large membership.

Later he served at Carlin Howe, in the parish of Brotton Parva, near Saltburn, and three months ago came to Wath.

Mr Eves is 32 years of age, and a keen sportsman, his favourite game being football. At Durham he played for the University, and also played for Stockton.

During the war he served with the Machine Gun Corps, and attained the rank of Major, winning the Military Cross with Bar. He was immobilising Germany after the armistice.

Already Mr and Mrs Eves have made many friends in Wath.
