Old Wathonians
Old Wathonians’ Rugby Club defeated Old Pomfretians at Wath 30-11 on Saturday.
The warm sunshine and a hard ground probably made the game trying for the players, but for the spectators conditions were ideal and the play fast enough to be interesting.
The Wath forwards were not only keen in the loose, but they gave their backs plenty of the ball. The three quarters were in an attacking mood and showed some improvement, but during the first halt the tries were largely the result of individual effort.
At half-time Old Wathonians were leading 16-3.
Early in the second half BARNES kicked a penalty goal. The Old Wathonians continued to have the advantage and clever tries were scored mainly due to combination between Barnes and Simpson. In the latter part of the game the Pontefract forwards, in spite of the warm weather, resumed the offensive and crossed the line twice. The latter try was converted.
For Wath tries were scored by Barrett, Barnes (2). Davis and Simpson (3), and goals kicked by Barrett, Davis and Dean. Barnes was unlucky in hitting the goalposts twice.
