Old Wathonians Appointment

Wath Grammar School has the distinction of numbering among, its Old Boys a promising young archaeologist. He is Mr. Kenneth Steer, who on July 1st will take up an appointment as archaeologist to the Royal Commission of Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland.

Mr. Steer went from Wath Grammar School to Durham University in 1932 and on completing his degree course in 1936 won a Fellowship at Durham. Next week he will receive the degree of Master of Arts.

Under the terms of the Fellowship, Mr. Steer undertook research work in archaeology in Durham county, and carried out excavations on many Roman fort sites. For the Yorkshire Archaeological Society he superintended excavations at Rudston (East Yorks) and more recently he has been working at Alborough near Boroughbridge.
