Olympics in Mind
Secretary of Wath Athletic Weight-lifting section, Mr. Roy Fox, of 28, Wath Road, Sandygate, won a silver medal for the best pose with weights in the “British Amatetur Weight Lifter” in September.
Roy, who started weight-lifting two years ago at the Rotherham Saxony Club, has been a member of Wath Weight-lifting Club since it was formed six months ago. He has a local title attempt at Stocksbridge in 1948 with a lift of 450 lbs. and is hoping to compete in the Olympic Games of 1952. He is training on the three Olympic lifts, He has also entered for the Yorkshire Championships.
Among his collection of medals, certificates, and diplomas is a silver medal for the most stylish lifting in Britain, a diploma gained for best increase in poundage, in January, 1948, and two certificates, one for a (lead lift of 380 ΒΌ lbs. and the other for three Olympic lifts of 155, 170 and 220 lbs. respectively.
