Pit Fatality

Fred Crossley (53), of 149, Wath Road. Mexborough, a colliery packer employed at Wath Main Colbuy, was fatally injured by a fall of roof while at his work on Wednesday morning.

Crossley, who leaves a widow and one son (serving in the RAY.), is the elder brother of Harry Crossley, the Mexborough boxer, who was formerly cruiser-weight champion of England.

He and his brother, Ernest, were also keenly interested in boxing, and used to act as seconds for their brother.

He had only worked at Wath Main (Melton Field Seam) for two months, before which he was employed for many years at Manvers Main and then at Edlington Main.

The funeral takes place on Saturday at Swinton, at 2.30 p.m.
