Planting a Plant

These two benzol stills were on Sunday delivered on the site of the coke oven and by-product plant which is being erected for the Manvers Main Collieries by Simon-Carves Ltd. The plant will consist of a battery of thirty ovens, each of twenty-ton capacity, the largest of their kind in this country, and there is room on the site for complete duplication if necessary.

The photograph shows the benzol stills, eleven feet and a half in diameter, just arrived on the ground.

Their transport from Middlesbrough by the London and North Eastern Railway was a difficult and delicate business. Rapid progress is being made with the erection of the plant, which should be in operation by October.
