Potato Competition Winners
Coun. A. Fairhurst handing over the stainless steel spade he offered to the winner of the Wath Section of the Montagu Hospital Potato Competition.
In the group are Mr. A. Laycock .(secretary-superintendent of the Hospital), Mr. W. Dunwell (secretary of the scheme), Mr. A. Coult (winner), Coun. A. Fairhurst, Coun. A. Wild chairman of Wath Allotments Committee), and the Matron.
The scheme was a great success, and the winning potatoes weighed 4lbs. 14ms., the second best weight being 4lbs. 10ozs. entered by Mr. A. E. Tabor. Just over a ton of potatoes were given to the Hospital through the Wath effort.
The Hospital Board are grateful to the above, and to Messrs. B. Haigh, F. Hodsworth, G Brook, J. M. Turner, F. Bell and Colin. P. R. Baker, as well as to the headmaslers of Wath school, for their help in this effort.
