Presentation to Irving Sleight
The presentation was made on Saturday to Mr. Irving Sleight, the former captain of the Wath cricket team in the Yorkshire Council, of a gold watch and a petrol lighter, gifts from the staff of the Manvers Main Collieries.
Mr. A. T. Thomson made the presentation in the offices, and paid a tribute to Mr. Sleight’s work for the firm, and to his qualities as a sportsman.
Dr. W. G. Hudson and others spoke on behalf of the staffs, and Mr. G. Price remarked on Mr. Sleight’s influence on the cricket field.
Mr Sleight laid down the captaincy of the Wath team, and resigned his position as a member of the office staff of the Manvers Main Collieries; when he left last summer to take over the Chequers Inn at South Elmsall.
