Promising Wombwell Half
Wombwell are expecting useful service from Claude Sorby, a half whose home is at West Melton.
Sorby is a product of school football. He was a member of the Dearne Valley team.
Later in the hurly burly of junior football he won a reputation with West Melton, and in the last two or three seasons has been regarded as a player of distinct promise.
During last season he had a run with Wombwell, but circumstances prevented the club from engaging him, and he went to Chesterfield.
In their preparations for this season the Wombwell club lost no time in rectifying what many thought was a mistake, and Sorby was one of the first men signed. He is twenty years old, of excellent physique, and has no end of pluck. He is an effective tackler, distributes well, and knows the value of keeping the ball “on the carpet.” His play in the practice games has raised high expectations.
