R.A.F. For Kevin
Kevin Siddall’s big ambitions have paid off – he has become one of the youngest boys to be accepted by the R.A.F.
Formerly from Goldthorpe, Kevin has wanted to join the forces since he was very young. He became determined to prove that he was ideally suited to Air Force life and applied to take his entrance exam six months early.
“He should have taken the exam at 15 ½,” said his grandmother, Mrs. Florence Siddall, of 6, Pinfold, Wath, “but he went for the first test only two days after his 15th birthday. He passed this exam and went on to take a further test at Shrewsbury three weeks later.”
Kelvin was accepted to train in Electronics and Air Communications. He was one of three boys to pass this final test from 20 entrants.
His grandfather Mr. Bill Siddall, said, “It has been Kevin’s ambition all his life to join the R.A.F. He has always made models of planes and his parents’ house is full of them.”
Kevin’s parents, Colin and Jean Siddall, lived in Goldthorpe for many years, where they owned a fish and chip shop. Three years ago they moved to North Wales where they have now made their home.
