Road Improvement at Wath Will Cost £55,750

Mr Richard Marsh, Minister of Transport, has made a grant of £41,813 to the West Riding County Council towards the £55,750 estimated cost of a scheme to widen and improve the Barnsley and Rotherham County Road (A.633) in Wath.

The work, which will be carried out by direct labour, is to start shortly and is expected to take about ten months to complete.

A new carriageway, 24 feet wide with two six feet wide footpaths and verges, will be constructed on an improved alignment from Montgomery Road to a point 170 yards west of Well Lane, a total distance of 570 yards.

This is a further stage in the improvement of this busy industrial route.

The scheme has been designed by the former West Riding County Surveyor, Col. S. Maynard Lovell, C.B.E., E.R.D., T.D., and it will be supervised by his successor Mr. J. A. Gaffney B.Sc. (Eng.),
