In River Plate Battle.
Wath had also its representative in the battle of the River Plate, when the British cruisers so effectively dealt with the German battleship, “Graf Spee.”
Petty Officer H. Dodsworth, 27-year.old son of Mr. and Mrs. Dodsworth of 36, Beech Road, Wath, was serving on one of the British cruisers.
As a matter of fact he has been on this particular ship for eighteen months though he has ten years’ service in the Navy to his credit.
He was on H.M.S. Sussex when it took H.R.H. the Duke of Gloucester to Australia.
The family have other representatives in the Services, to whom reference will be made in due course in our page for local men serving with H M Forces.
