Able Seaman Monk, 34 Midland Terrace, Wath on Dearne, was killed in action in France on August 26.

He was 28 years of age and had been serving almost throughout the war. He went through the Gallipoli campaign, in which he was wounded, and went to France in March, 1917

Before enlistment he was employed at the Wath Main Colliery.

A brother, Private Richard Monk, of 37, Chalesworth Street, Sunderland, who joined -the Army before the war, in August, 1013, and has been wounded three times, is now in hospital in France, sick. He is 27 years of age.

Another brother, Pte. Harry Monk (York and Lancaster) who enlisted last April, has been returned to the Wath Main Colliery.This
