A Swinton Seaman

A.B. Seaman Stanley Viccars, aged 22, a seaman gunner, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Hodgson, of 10, Story Street, Swinton, joined the Navy six years ago and was posted to H.M.S. Rodney.

He has also served in the Courageous, and on board destroyers. It is two years since he was home, but he says it is a fine life. His mother received a letter from him a few days ago in which he said he was well and happy. He stands 6ft. 1in., and when he joined the Navy six years ago, he only just managed to get in because he was so small.

He was a member of Swinton Church choir, and Swinton Church Scouts, and often played in the Church football team when he was home on leave.

He was employed as a screen hand at Wath Main Colliery before he joined the Navy.
