Serious Accident at Cortonwood Colliery.
Yesterday (Friday) at noon, a miner named Reuben Thompson, was admitted into Barnsley Beckett Hospital, suffering from injuries sustained while work Cortonwood Colliery, on Tuesday.
While Thompson was at work in the pit a heavy fall of roof took place, entirely burying him. His hurrier, James Troy, with others, speedily set to work, and were not long before they succeeded in uncovering his head and shoulders.
It was some time, however before he could be fairly extricated, and then was found had sustained very serious internal injuries. He was taken to his home at Winterwell, where remained until yesterday under the care of Dr. Miilar.
On the recommendation that gentleman he was brought to Barnsley in the colliery ambulance. It is not usual to admit accident patients after they had been treated at their own homes, but this case, after some explanations had been given, was received.
Thompson is 47 years of age, and has a wife and one son, the latter a young man of 21.
