Wath System To Be Electrified
Wath marshalling yard, one of the earliest and most important shunting yards the country, is to be electrifled under the scheme for the electrification of the Manchester—Sheffield main L.N.E.R. line.
Experts from all over the world have visited Wath at one time and another to study the system, and the method of marshalling goods and mineral traffic has been copied many different railway companies.
The yard ‘s has accommodation for several hundred goods and mineral wagons which are sorted and marshalled automatically. It Is inclined away from the main line and the wagons run by themselves on to their appropriate tracks as the points are operated signal man.
Wath is one of the main points on the line where trains are made up.
