Wath Officer Wins M.C.

Many people in the Wath area, particularly hockey enthusiasts, will be pleased to learn that Lieut. G. A. (“Tony”) Baylis, only son of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Baylis, Birdholme. Wath, has been awarded the Military Cross while serving with the Middle East Forces.

This is the first M.C. to come to Wath in this war, and many will join in congratulating Lieut. Baylis.

An excellent hockey player during the 1938-39 season, Lieut. Baylis played four times for England. When he was selected to play for England in March, 1939, against Scotland, he was the first Yorkshireman to gain an England Cap for many years. He also played for the Hockey Association XI., Yorkshire and the North.

Lieut. Baylis joined the Army before the outbreak of war.
