He Likes It

“The men who are called up under the new age draft have nothing to be afraid of, if they will only give their minds to it, For my own part I only wish I had joined up when I was younger.”

This re-assuring message occurs in a letter written to us by L/Bombr A. Brown of Brampton, well known in local boxing and football circles, who is serving in an anti-aircraft battery. His old pals will be glad to note that he has been promoted. He received his first stripe recently.

He mentions that he has just returned from a P.T. course which is the sort of training he likes best.

L/Bombr Brown’s description of the Christmas fare will convince our readers that, if an Army marches on its stomach, we have already won hands down. He says they had potatoes and sprouts. turkey, Christmas pudding served with delicious sauce, and a bottle of rum to put a “kick” in it —finishing with a cake presented by the captain’s wife. Beer and crackers helped to keep the fun going.

“We had good reason to celebrate.” he said, because the Commanding Officer had just congratulated us on gaining the highest honours in the whole of this defence unit.”

L/Bombr. Brown concluded. “I would like to thank you for the home news which your paper gives us, and to send the best wishes of the boys here to yourself and readers.”
