Three Weeks’ War Service
West Melton Man’s Tragic Death
Within three weeks of taking up war service, Mr. Cyril Burton (37), of 27, High Street, West Melton, has died as a result of enemy action.
Formerly employed on the staff of Messrs. Nicholson and Co., solicitors, of Wath on Dearne, he joined the Police War Reserve and has been stationed at a place which was bombed recently.
He died in hospital.
Mr Burton was the younger son of Mrs and Mrs. William Walter Burton, of 28, Barnsley Road, Wath on Dearne, and a well-known figure in the district. He

There are no children. Mrs. Burton lost a brother in the last war.
Mr. Burton left the National School, Wath, before he was fourteen to enter Messrs. Nicholson’s office, and had never been employed elsewhere.
He was a member of Coley Lane Golf Club, Wentworth, and at one time was secretary of Wath Swimming Club.
His father, who is an invalid, was for 32 years treasurer of the Wath and West Melton Hospital Committee.
His only brother, Mr. Harold Burton, is a Doctor of Science and full time lecturer in chemistry at Leeds University.
The death occurred on Sunday, and the interment will take place at Wombwell to-morrow (Saturday).
