Private C. Carr
(York & Lancs)
Wath – Killed
Private Clifford Carr, 59 Sandymount Rd, was on Dearne, was killed in action in France on July 7.
He was a territorial serving in the York and Lancasters. He was a 24, married, and leaves one child.
Lance Corporal A Webster of the same platoon, writing to his parents to announce the death, says:
“it is with deepest regret that I write these few lines to let you know that your dear son Cliff was killed in action on the morning of July 7 about 4.30. He suffered no pain but died instantly, been shot by a sniper while out on a bombing raid. I was with him until about four. We was brought in the best of spirits, the news came as a great shock to me.
Poor lad, he was a fine soldier and well liked by all with whom he came in contact. Everyone in the platoon send their deepest sympathy.
Trusting God will console you in your hour of trial.
