October 1917

Mexborough and Swinton Times October 6, 1917

Private Joe Cartwright (R.A.M.C.) who enlisting 1914, was a member of the Wath Ambulance Association, and was for two years on the hospital establishment at Brighton.

He is now serving in France, and was recently at home on leave.

His brother, Sapper James Wainwright (Royal Engineers) also enlisted in December, 1914, and has been in France and Flanders for more than 18 months. He has been in a good number of engagements, having gone through the battle of the Somme.

He has so far escaped serious injury.

He, too, was over on leave early in August, and got home the day before his brother.
