Prisoner of War
After the fall of Singapore, Gnr. Harold Geoffrey Clark, R.A. (25), eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Clark, 21, Avenue Road, Wath, was reported “missing, may be prisoner of war.”
On Tuesday, Mr. and Mrs. Clark received the following letter from the officer commanding Royal Artillery (H.A.A.) Records, Rugby,
“Although no official prisoner of war report has been received from the Japanese an official list, which has reached the War Office states that the above named soldier (their son) was well on May 25th, 1942. On the evidence of this list, your son has been recorded a prisoner of war. Confirmation from official Japanese source is awaited.
“Geoff. Was formerly employed at Manvers Main Colliery, joined the Army year before the outbreak of war and when war was declared he had been in Singapore for two weeks.
