Prisoner Escapes

An Upton soldier has escaped from imprisonment in Italy and reached British lines.

He is Gdsmn. Gilbert Cox, Coldstream Guards, who was taken prisoner at Tobruk in June 1942 and he has written home saying that he hopes to come to England shortly.

Gdsmn. Cox was a deputy at Upton Colliery when he joined the Army in November 1940.  He is 36, and the only child of Mr. and Mrs. W. Cox, formerly of Wrangbrook Road, Upton, now of Parkgate, Rotherham.  Gdsmn.

Cox’s wife and son are living at West Melton.
