Private William Cusworth 18, Holm Flatt St, Parkgate, late of 20 York Street, West Melton, was killed in action in France on the September 18.
He is the third son of Mr M Cusworth and the late Mrs Cusworth, 13 Firth Road, West Melton to fall in action.
He enlisted in December 1914, and went to France in June 1916.
His wife has received the following message from Lance Corporal Durran: “A shell dropped among a party of men, including your husband. He was killed instantly. All his old comrades join me in offering you our deepest sympathy. A true friend or a better soldier I’m sure no man could find. He gave his life the great cause any sacrifice is repaid in the sight of God.”
