Rifleman Earl, whose home is at 2, Doncaster Road, Wath has been killed by a sniper.

He enlisted on April 19 9015 went to France in the following September. In November of the same year he went to Salonika, from whence he was invalided home with malaria in August 19616. He went to France again in February 28 this year. Private Earl was a Lewis gunner.

Sec Lt A Marshall Ewart writes to his mother that he was “very efficient,” and “his loss is felt by us all.”A

Private Earl was 21 years of age, and worked at Wath Main Colliery.

He had a brother, Henry Earl,  with the Duke of Wellington’s W.R. Regiment at Clipstone camp.
