Killed In Italy

Official news has been received that L/Cpl. John Dunston Edwards, Coldstream Guards, has been killed in Italy.

He was one of four sons of Mrs. R. Edwards, 31, Burman Road, Wath, serving abroad with the Forces.  He joined the Coldstream Guards in peace time.

After leaving Manvers Main Colliery to join the Metropolitan Police Force, war intervened and he was among the first troops to be landed in France. While serving in Belgium he sustained a shrapnel wound in the thigh and was brought to England a few days before the evacuation from Dunkirk, and after convalescence was attached to the London Fire Service, with whom he was in action during the London blitz.  L/Cpl. Edwards was then passed as fit for further service and was drafted to Italy.

He fought with the 8th Army throughout the Italian campaign and the news of his death after active service since the beginning of the war will be received with regret by his many friends.

L/Cpl. Edwards leaves a wife whose home is in London and who is serving with the N.F.S. there.  They had been married only a week before his last embarkation.

Three other serving brothers are P/O. C. Edwards, Sergt. T. Edwards, who is in Italy, and A.C.1. Edwards, R.A.F. in India.
