Private Albert Hardy
York and Lancaster
Private Hardy of Wath on Dearne, has been killed in France. He was the youngest brother of Mr. Wilson Hardy, assistant master at the Wath National School (also in France), and at the outbreak of the war was with the Wath Territorials, and went to France in April, 1915.
He was 28 years of age, and formerly worked at the Wath Main Colliery.
His officer has sent the information that. Pte. Hardy was killed on Oct. 21 while repairing a wire which had been cut by shell fire. A shell burst near him, and a fragment entered his side. He became unconscious, and did not live very long.
The officer adds: “He is mourned not only by me., his officer, but by the whole signal section and everyone in the battalion who knew him. He has worked with me for nearly nine months, and I have always add a real regard for him. He was the most conscientious, hard working and trustworthy man that one could wish to meet.”
