Mrs Oates, 29, Low Common road, Wath-on-Dearne, has been notified that her son, Pte. James William Oates, 1st K.O.Y.L.I., died in India on Aug. 21.
He only embarked for India, after being stationed at Hillsbro’. Sheffield, on July 20. He was 21 years of age and had served in the Army for 4 years.
He went to France three’ times and was once wounded and twice gassed.
He was unmarried, and his home was with his mother. Before enlistment he was employed at the Manvers Main Colliery.
