Promotion

Mr. and Mrs. Spence, 106, Winterwell Road, West Melton, have learned with much pleasure of the promotion of their son. Douglas, to the rank of Pilot Officer. Although he has now completed his training in Canada, he is to remain there on instructional duties for some time.

Douglas, who is 22, is an old scholar of the National School, where he was prominent in sporting activities. For a time he was in employment of Mr. G. H. Smickersgill (builder and contractor).

He attended Mexborough Technical College prior to joining the RAF. in June, 1942. Proceeding to Canada in January of this year, he qualified for his wings, and further progress brought him his commission.
