Lance Corporal William Spurr, R.A.M.C. is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Spurr, of High Street, West Melton. He was at Wath Main Colliery before joining the Army and was in France before the German invasion of Holland and Belgium.

He remained until the evacuation from Dunkirk.

Lance Corporal Spurr’s father served in the last war.
