Bereaved Wath Father Decorated By King

Mr Alfred Sykes of 42, Sandymount Road, Wath on Dearne, was invested by the king during his Majesty’s recent visit to Hull, with the Military Medal awarded his deceased son, Sergeant John Sykes (K.O.Y.L.I.)

Sergeant Sykes was killed in action in France on July 1, 1916.

The King expressed deep sympathy with Mr Sykes, who has lost two sons in the war, and has another one serving.
