Private Thompson of 3, Content Terrace, West Melton, has been killed in action in France. He was the servant of the late Captain G. E. Hewitt, of Barnsley-,and they fell side by side during an attack on a village near Cambrai.
A memorial service was held at Christ Church, Brampton Bierlow, on Sunday afternoon, when a large number of friends were present.
The hymns, “When our heads are bowed with woe,” ” Christ will gather in His own,” and ” For ever -with the Lord,” were sung.
At the end of the service Corporal Wilcox the organist, who happened to be home on leave, played the Dead March in ” Saul”
