Lance-Corporal J. Usher (20), of 77. Oak Road, Wath, now serving with the York and Lancaster Regiment, joined up in the first months of 1939.

Born in Sandygate, Wath, he was educated at the Victoria School, Wath, and before joining up worked at Manvers Main Colliery.
