Last to LeaveĀ  Sulva
Corporal W.H. Venables (R.A.M.C.)

The name of Corporal Venables, of Firth Road, West Melton, figures in a graphic account of the final evacuation of Sulva Bay, sent to the “Harrogate Advertiser” by the former secretary of the Harrogate Chamber of Trades, Mr Percy Cash.

Corporal Venables was one of a group of thirteen gallant R.A.M.C. men who stayed to the last, and succeeded in bringing away all the medical stores and surgical appliances.
