Wath Officer “Gassed”
Second Lieutenant R.B. Wade
(Royal Engineers)
son of Mr & Mrs T. Wade, Sandygate, Wath on Dearne, has been “gassed” and is in hospital in France.
In a letter written to his mother he says:
“I am pleased to say that I am only slightly gassed, as I put on my helmet so soon as I could distinguish the poison gas from the ‘tear’ gas. We had quite a lot of the latter, one one gets quite used to crying for an hour or two.
I am beginning to feel myself again, and I shall probably be sent to a rest camp for a fortnight. I was feeling very run down, as I have had a ticklish job, and was to have finished it that night in ‘no man’s land.’
The ‘Times’ arrived to-day, and it is very nice to read about things at home.”
