Posted missing in the Middle East on June 4th, Pte. Donald Vaughan Whitham (21), son of Mr and Mrs. Fred Vaughan, 68, Oak Road, Wath, is reported from a German source to be a prisoner of war.

Mr and Mrs Vaughan have been told that their son’s name was mentioned in a German broadcast on Friday.

Pte Whitham was called up at the outbreak of war in the Wath Territorials, but was transferred to another regiment when he was sent abroad in January last.

Educated at Wath Victoria School, he was an engine driver at Manvers Main Colliery. His fiancee is in the A. T.S.
