Father and Son
Couple of West Melton Fighters
West Melton has every reason to be proud of her son sent to the front, but surely none more than a family in which father and son are both serving “somewhere in France.”
Private H Foulstone, almost 50 years of age last birthday, and now serving as a pioneer with 1/14 Service Battalion of the York and Lancaster Regiment. He was in the 1897 Queen’s Jubilee. He also served in the south in the South African War, and as the Queen’s medal with no less than six clasps.
With his present battalion he saw service in Egypt before landing on French soil, and occupying the famous trenches “somewhere on the line.” Though 50 years of age he is hale and hearty, and bids fair to outlast many of those much younger in years.
His son, Lance Cpl Joe Foulstone, is a transport driver of the seventh York and Lancs, Regiment, who, like his father, is “doing his bit” for King and country, “somewhere near to his father.” Both have so far escaped the enemy’s fire, and we hope they may be spared to return home safe and sound
The father lives at 49, first road, West Melton; and the sun at eight Packman Road, West Melton
