Swine Fever at West Melton

Edmund Law, miner, of Newhill was summoned for having had a pig in his possession affected with swine fever and for having failed to give notice with all practicable speed to the police.

Police constable Oxley stated that on the 14th inst., at Newhill, defendant had a pig affected with swine fever. The animal died, and it was subsequently buried. No notice, however, was given to the police.

Defendant said he did not know the pig had died from swine Fever.

A fine of 20s including costs was imposed.
