Tailpiece – The Great Blondin,

The Great Blondin, before making his first attempt to walk the tight-rope over Niagara Falls, thus addressed the vast multitude gathered to watch the performance:

“Do you believe that I can do this thing? Your faith is important to me.”

“Yes,” they roared, “we believe.”

The fearful Journey was successfully accomplished and Blondin then announced that he proposed to make another trip this time with a wheel-barrow. He asked the same question and got the same thunderous, confident reply. Again he triumphed.

“Now,” he said, “I propose to travel across the rope once more, this time with a man in the wheelbarrow. Do you think I can do that?”

“Yes,” the crowd cried amid wild excitement, “We do.”

“Very well then,” said Blondin, “have I a volunteer?”
